The Crown Grille

I spent most of the day in our stateroom, trying to feel better, but came out for our first (of two) specialty meals aboard ship at the Crown Grille - the ship's fancy steakhouse. Service was excellent and the meal was divine!

I had a tiger prawn appetizer and Carl had the sea scallops - both were delicious and well presented!

For the main course, I had the filet mignon and Carl had the surf & turf - the filet mignon with a lobster tail.  Oh my gosh, the meat was so tender!

For dessert, I ordered the apple rhubarb cobbler with vanilla ice cream and Carl got a caramel creme brulee cheesecake (he won!)

After dinner, we wandered over to the Vista Live theatre where they were playing a game called "Little White Lies."  They had 3 crew members who each were given some question to answer about themselves.  But one of them was fibbing.  People had to guess who was telling the lie (put a ticket in their bucket) and then there was a drawing from the bucket of the person who had been telling a "white lie" and that person (the one who had guessed correctly) won a bottle of wine.

When that was over, we went off to our evening's entertainment, which was a fellow doing a tribute to Johnny Cash.  He had a great voice and boy, could he sing low!

I had plans to stay up and go to the midnight Christmas service on the ship, but I was feeling so bad, I just finished the show and went back to our stateroom, took my last meds for the day and went to bed!

Fjord-ward ho!

 Wednesday, January 3, 2024 Yes - I'm writing this post on January 3, but it's all about yesterday, Tuesday, January 2, 2024, and our cruising through New Zealand's Fjordland National Park around the southern end of New Zealand's south island.  In Maori it is called "Te Rua-o-te-moko" (the Shadowland) and includes 14 fjords on the western coast of NZ.  the fjords reach up to 40 km inland, along 200 km of rugged western coastline. Rain falls in Fjordland over 200 days each year and yesterday (January 2) it was certainly cloudy, rainy (a bit) and very cool and windy!  But the views - oh the views were spectacular! Trip Coda - My Big Break

 January 15, 2024 Needed to add this coda to the trip.  We arrived home safely on Saturday, January 6, 2024. I ran out quickly before snow really started falling to pick up accumulated mail at the Post Office and pick up a prescription for Carl at the local CVS.  I came home, took off my coat and went to put Carl's medicine in the refrigerator. I stepped into the kitchen and my right foot stuck on the linoleum but I still had forward momentum and I fell, landing on my right leg and arm and banging my head on the corner of the refrigerator!  I broke my right wrist - both the radius & ulna bones. After a few minutes of trying to figure out how to get up off the floor without moving/using my right arm, I was able to get upright and Carl took me immediately to Urgent Care. X-rays confirmed the break (and no breaks in right leg although I've got lots of soft tissue damage/bruises) and I got splinted up for the weekend with a referral to orthopedics on Monday, Jan. 8, ...

Kia Ora

 Wednesday, December 27, 2023 morning we docked in Tauranga, NZ and our excursion for today was a M'aori Cultural Experience.  We came into port just before 10 a.m. and really, the views were spectacular! The waters are a beautiful blue and that little island rising up out of the harbor is just SO New Zealand. Smaller cruise ship next to us in port at Tauranga Island rising out of the harbor at Tauranga I got up early this morning to do a couple of loads of laundry before anything else.  Carl and I talked about this last night and figured it would be better to do some laundry today, rather than waiting for our at sea day tomorrow when everyone else is likely to want to do laundry.  Both loads were done & dried just after 8:30 a.m.  and by the time we wandered up to the Marketplace on Deck 16 for a late breakfast, it seems that everyone else had the same idea today.  It was WAY too crowded and we had trouble finding a table.  Carl finally found us a...
